- Try tweeting. There are too many times I get request from people to find out they have a 0 tweet account. This makes people feel like a notch on the belt. Some people don't tweet because they don't have any follower. I have to recall an old catch phrase: Build it and they will come. Plus, it looks creepy. Internet security is a big thing these days contributing to so many people privatizing their accounts which is something I don't suggest if you want to implore "followage". Avoid that weird stalker vibe.
- Go in on trending topics (#TT). These are subjects that are currently being highly tweeted about. They are shown on the side of your twitter page. Some have a "#" in front of them signifying that it's a hashtag (for the purposes of easy searching). If you're not sure what certain trending topics mean whatthetrend.com serves as a good source of explanation. They even have one specific to location.
- Respond to people that mention you. It gives people confidence once again that they aren't another launch on the belt. It's just as depressing to be ignored on the internet as it is in person. Over time, you build loyalty that way, buzz, and people will be more likely to get other tweetheads to follow you as well.
- Follow people that you actually want to know about. This gives you more inspiration to respond. If you go around just following anybody, you'll develop a timeline that make you want to regurgitate, resulting in you avoiding twitter in all. That's not what you made the account for, is it?
- Lastly, avoid mundane tweets like I'm making a sandwich. No one wants to hear about that. If you're going to chronicle your life, make it interesting, or informative. When @GeicoTheQue (that's me) tweets about making a sandwich he goes into the detail. I'll tell you why I feel guilty about choosing white over wheat because I know it's not as healthy, but tastes so good anyways. Wit and charisma goes a long way. Be like Obama. He's the smoothest Mr. Prez I know.
